Mr. Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Spain.
I am writing this letter in order to show my concern for the news which declare that in your country thousands of tons of humanitarian aid from international agencies and NGOs around the planet, aimed to the civilian population of Gaza, are paralyzed. I feel particular concern for the aid sent by the British convoy “Viva Palestine”, as its load is being forced to return from Gaza into Egypt by Israel, aswell as for the fate of the aid workers of the Spanish NGO “Peace Now” and the three trailers that they are trying to transport to Gaza across your republic territories. I’m also very interested in the aid workers who belong to other nationalities and the journalists from around the world who are being prevented from crossing through Rafah by your government. I especially want to show my concern for the thousands of Palestinians who are forced to remain in Egypt due to the prolonged closure of the border.
I modestly suggest that your country will help to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza, submitted by the State of Israel to a blockade with no mercy.
In my modest opinion, the blockade increases the suffering of nearly a million and a half people who have suffered a cruel attack by the Israeli army during the last months of December and January. This military aggression has resulted, as you know, one thousand three hundred dead and several thousands injured and disabled.
The Government of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr Hosni Mubarak Sayyid, which you represent before the Kingdom of Spain, proclaims constant declarations of support for the Palestinian people. I very much hope that your government goes beyond words.
With respect, I request you to attend these petitions transmitting your Foreign Minister in Cairo my request for an immediate and unconditional opening of the Rafah border between Egypt and Palestine. This opening would lead to the Arab Republic of Egypt to make use of full sovereignty over its territory, for which I venture to suggest to ignore the pressures that you continually receive by the State of Israel.
Respectfully:
