تلقينا بألم وحزن شديدين نبأ الرحيل دكتور احمد مسلماني مدير لجان العمل الشعبية المفاجئ، وإذ نعبر لعائلة ورفاق واصدقاء الفقيد عن تعازينا الحارة نود نقل هذه التعازي مفعمة بمشاعر التضامن لكل المناضلين في حركة التحرر الوطن الفلسطيني في هذه اللحظات الحزينة.. لقد كان الفقيد مثالا للمناضل العنيد يشهد له بذلك كل شبر من ارض فلسطين ، وكل زقاق في القدس القديمة لقد كان النضال بالنسبة له مقاومة شجاعة ضد الاحتلال الاسرائيلي البغيض الذي لا يرحم. دخل مسلماني السجون الإسرائيلية اربع مرات لكن ذلك لم يؤثؤ في عزيتمه ولا في مشاعره الانسانية ولم يعرقل مسيرته النضالية ولم يضعف من تصميمه . كما لم يثنيه عمله في مجال الخدمات الطبية لشعبه من ممارسة دوره السياسي مما جعل منه قائدا مميزا خلال الانتفاضة الثانية. كما تهن عزيمته وإرداته حتى آخر لحظة في حياته . ردا على الرسالة التي بعث بها لنا قبل سنة مقدما الشكر لكل المنظمات الدولية التي ساهمت في الحملة لإطلاق سراحه نقول له الآن بأننا على العهد ماضون ولن نخيب امله وسيظل نبرسا يضيء لنا الطريق نحو مزيد من العطاء والتضامن يتمكن الشعب الفلسطيني من الحرية التي سينعم بها مهما طال الزمن. سنظل اوفياء للرسالة الفكرية والتصميم والإرادة وسنواصل النضال . ونحن على ثقة بأن هذا الوعد هو افضل رسالة لروحة وذكرى لشخصه وللآلاف من الضحايا الفلسطينين . نحن معكم في هذا اليوم الحزين الذي يخيم على فلسطين

COMUNICADO sobre la muerte de Ahmad Maslamani
Hemos conocido con dolor y desazón la muerte prematura y sorpresiva del Dr. Ahmad Maslaman, director de los "Health Work Committees". A sus familiares, amigos, compañeros y al movimiento de liberación palestino trasladamos nuestro pesar y nuestra solidaridad en estos tristes momentos.
Luchador inagotable y fuerte, cada pieza de la tierra Palestina, cada rincón de Jerusalén Este, fue para él una cuestión de lucha contra la cruel y pertinaz ocupación israelí.
Maslamani, que sufrió las prisiones israelíes por cuatro veces, no mudó su gesto humano y amable, no torció su camino, no flaqueó en su determinación. Su dedicación a la atención sanitaria de su pueblo no le alejó del trabajo político, siendo un destacado líder en la segunda Intifada, ni tampoco enturbiaron su mente que permaneció lúcida y fuerte hasta el final.
A él que nos dirigía una carta – hace poco más de un año - agradeciendo el papel que las organizaciones internacionales jugaron en su puesta en libertad es hora de que nosotros le digamos que no cejaremos, que no le defraudaremos, que guardamos su recuerdo y su testimonio como la luz que abre y ensancha el camino de la solidaridad y de la libertad por el que pasará más temprano que tarde el Pueblo Palestino.
Recogemos humildemente la luz de su pensamiento y determinación y seguiremos en la lucha. Creemos que éste será el mejor de nuestros homenajes a su memoria y a la memoria de tantas víctimas palestinas.
Estamos con vosotros en este día triste para Palestina.

THE ALTERNATIVE INFORMATION CENTER (AIC)
Early this morning, on 7 January 2008, the Palestinian people, and the progressive political and social movement lost Dr. Ahmad Maslamani, Director of the Health Work Committees. Dr. Maslamani’s sudden death is a real shock for us. We have known him in the fields of struggle for several decades, during which we worked and struggled together in Palestine and the international arena.
The Board of Directors of the Alternative Information Center, the AIC directors and staff members, as well as the friends of the AIC in Palestine and Israel, lost a true comrade and a fighter for freedom and peace. This loss is very heavy.
Despite this tragic loss, we renew our commitment to keep the torch of struggle for freedom and peace, to keep the dreams and to continue our struggle more strongly in all the fields - politically, socially and culturally - until we achieve our common goals and dreams.
We express our deepest condolences to his family, his wife and sons, to his comrades and to the Health Work Committees.

“Esta mañana el Dr. Ahmad Maslamani, una importante figura nacional en la lucha de las redes palestinas contra la Ocupación, falleció como resultado de un ataque cardíaco.
En 1985 fue miembro fundador de la Unión de Comités de Trabajo para la Salud, de la que era director desde 1992. Desde el 2004 era miembro del comité directivo de la Campaña Anti Muro del Apartheid. Así mismo pertenecía al Comité Central del Frente Popular para la Liberación de Palestina.
Su fallecimiento es una gran pérdida para el pueblo palestino. Como alguien que dedicó su vida a nuestra causa, seguirá siendo un modelo para todos nosotros por su constancia, determinación y humanidad. Permaneció fiel a los principios de nuestra lucha, comprometido con cada dunum de nuestra tierra y con el retorno de nuestros refugiados. Su comprensión estratégica de la causa le ayudó a fijar su mirada en los asuntos centrales de nuestro pueblo.
Fue encarcelado cuatro veces por la Ocupación, y las repetidas detenciones agudizaron su sentido de la justicia. Su modos tranquilos guardaban su gallardía, generosidad y humanidad.
Miembro activo de la lucha popular palestina a lo largo de su vida, se convirtió en un pilar de la sociedad civil palestina durante la segunda Intifada. Viviendo en Jerusalén, su ciudad de nacimiento, hizo campaña por los derechos de nuestro pueblo en la misma y por la dignidad de nuestra capital. Antes de las elecciones legislativas del 2006, la Ocupación lo encarceló por última vez y de junio del 2005 a marzo del 2006 estuvo en presidio en la cárcel de Ashkelon. Activistas nacionales e internacionales se unieron en una campaña por su liberación. Era uno de los miembros más activos de la Campaña de Redes Palestinas Anti Muro del Apartheid y le vamos a echar mucho en falta en estos tiempos difíciles para nuestra lucha.
El Dr. Ahmad Maslamani resistió con firmeza contra la normalización y su voz era influyente entre las organizaciones de la sociedad civil palestina. Estaba dispuesto a defender los derechos de nuestro pueblo igual que cuando los vio abandonados por la Autoridad Palestina.
Los últimos meses se caracterizaron por el mismo espíritu de constancia y resistencia que llevó consigo a lo largo de su vida. En Noviembre, fue una personalidad a la cabeza de la manifestación popular por los derechos palestinos en oposición a la conferencia de Annapolis. Frente a una inmensa presión, jugó un papel importante en diciembre, en proteger al Foro de Madrid por una Paz Justa de ser secuestrado y convertido en un acto para la normalización con la Ocupación. Cuando el Ministerio español de Exteriores perdió el control, a la fuerza despejó el lugar de reunión y mientras los participantes estaban manifestándose fuera de las puertas del vestíbulo de la conferencia, él simplemente sonrió y dijo: “La gente está protestando y defendiéndose; esto es lo que nosotros queremos.”
Dr. Ahmad, como lamentamos tu defunción, prometemos permanecer leales a tu visión y continuar en el camino de la lucha hasta que el Muro caiga, los refugiados vuelvan y Palestina sea libre.

In Memoriam: Dr. Ahmad Maslamani, 20 December 1958 – 7 January 2007
This morning Dr. Ahmad Maslamani, a leading national figure in the Palestinian grassroots struggle against the Occupation, passed away as a result of a heart attack. In 1985 he was a founder member of the Union of Health Work Committees, where he was director from 1992. From 2004, he was a member of the steering committee of the Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign. He was a member of the central committee of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
His passing is a great loss for the Palestinian people. As one who dedicated his life to our cause, he will remain a model for all of us in his steadfastness, determination and humanity. He remained faithful to the principles of our struggle, committed to every dunum of our land and to the return of our refugees. His strategic understanding of the cause helped him to focus on the core issues of our people.
He was imprisoned four times by the Occupation, and repeated detention sharpened his sense of justice. In his quiet manner he kept his gentleness, generosity and humanity.
An active member of the Palestinian popular struggle throughout his life, he became a pillar of Palestinian civil society during the second Intifada. Living in Jerusalem, the city of his birth, he campaigned for the rights of our people in the city and for the dignity of our capital. Before the 2006 legislative elections, the Occupation imprisoned him for the last time and from June 2005 to March 2006 he was incarcerated in Ashkelon prison. Activists and organizations nationally and internationally joined in the campaign for his release. He was one of the most active members of the Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign and he will be greatly missed in these difficult times of our struggle.
Dr. Ahmad Maslamani stood firm against normalization and his voice was influential among Palestinian civil society organizations. He was ready to defend the rights of our people even when he saw them sidelined by the Palestinian Authority.
The last few months were characterized by the same spirit of steadfastness and resistance which he carried with him throughout life. In November, he was a leading figure in the popular demonstration for Palestinian rights in opposition to the Annapolis conference. In December, in the face of immense pressure, he played a key role in the protection of the Madrid Forum for a Just Peace from being hijacked and turned into an event for normalization with the Occupation. When the Spanish Foreign ministry lost control, forcibly cleared the venue and while the participants were demonstrating outside the gates of the conference hall, he simply smiled and said: “People are protesting and fighting back – this is what we want.”
Dr. Ahmad, as we mourn your passing, we pledge to remain true to your vision and continue on the path of struggle until the Wall falls, the refugees return and Palestine is free. http://stopthewall.org/latestnews/1586.shtml

Ittijah-The Union of Arab Community Based Associations expresses its deepest sympathy on the sudden death of Dr. Ahmad Maslamani, Director General of Health Work Committees.
Dr. Maslamani was a well distinguished political figure, who greatly contributed to the development of the Palestinian Civil society and who played a significant role in the Palestinian struggle against Occupation. Dr. Maslamani spent his lifetime fighting for the Palestinian case and calling for justice and freedom.
With Dr. Maslamani’s death, the Palestinian community and civil society lost one of its leading characters; we trust that his memory would continue to inspire us in all walks of life. We pay our humble tribute to him and convey our condolences to the bereaved family.

As ACSUR Las Segovias we want to express our warmest support to our closed friend and colleague Dr Ahmad Maslamani’s beloved family, to Health Work Committees team, board and supporters, to PNGO and all the friends and comrades who knew, admired and loved him.
Despite the deep sadness we feel in this moment, we strongly beleive his strong leadership in the national struggle against israeli unfair and illegal occupation, his efforts to defend human rights, especially health and women rights in Palestine, his sustained dedication to his community as a doctor and leftist militant, as well as his invaluable international work for People’s rights, is and will be imperishable.
His untiring efforts for advancing Palestinian people’s inalienable rights, despite the illegal and inhumane measures Israel took against him, including long periods spent in israeli jail, seperated from his family, friends, colleagues and community, is an example for all Palestinian people and international social movement.
We also share the frustration and sadness of all palestinian friends and comrades, who cannot attend the funeral because of the israeli impedement for Palestinian of West Bank to enter Jerusalem.
Dr Ahmad is and will be always in our heart, enlightening with his smile, intelligence, humanity and solidarity the way towards freedom, equality, justice and people’s struggle against occupation and imperialism.
His pure humanity, his love for his country and his people, and his commitment towards human rights, democracy and freedom, will continue among us as a legacy. It is our duty to keep that in our minds and our souls.

Sin embargo está dura trayectoria vital no le hizo cesar en su empeño, no enturbiaron su humanidad, su coraje, su amabilidad, su honradez. Cada asesinato, cada encierro, cada robo de tierra, cada avance en la política de ocupación, cada golpe asestado a su amada palestina, fue un golpe también para su propia salud. Este es también un efecto de la terrible ocupación israelí. El camino de lucha y resistencia marcado por la trayectoria vital del Dr. Maslamani no acaba, continua, prosigue a través de sus pensamientos, de sus amigos y amigas, de todos los que seguiremos recordándole. Ese camino, que era el suyo, es también el nuestro.
Estamos con todas vosotras en esta triste jornada.

We at SODePAZ would like to share our condolences with his family, friends and compatriots in the Palestinian Liberation Movement, to whom we express our deepest sympathies in these difficult times.
Dr. Maslamani was a great man and a tireless advocate of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian cause, defending their land and people, opposing the brutal and bloody Israeli occupation. Ahmad fought against the occupation personally and professionally, as much in the realm of health as in politics, and for this he was gaoled several times by the Israeli government. In spite of the obstacles placed in his path he never capitulated in his struggle, he never lost his way, his humanity, his courage, his friendship or his honour. Every murder, every imprisonment, every theft of land, every advance by the occupation, every blow struck on his beloved Palestine was a blow to his own health. This is also an effect of the terrible Israeli occupation. The struggle and resistance that marked Dr. Maslamanis life has not ended, it goes on. It goes on in his thoughts, in his friends and in all that we will continue to remember him for. His struggle is also our struggle.
We are with you all in this sad time.
