Madrid. August 2005.
The Paz Ahora (Peace Now) delegation arrived from
Palestine on 16th
August 2005, into Barajas airport. It had accompanied the young participants
of the programme 'Holidays for Peace', who spent a month in Extremadura and
the Comunidad de Madrid, in their return to Palestine. The presence of Peace
Now in the Occupied Territories took place at the same time than the start
of the disengagement of all the colonies from Gaza and four colonies from
the North of the West Bank.

2) Barenboim's orchestra plays
for peace in Ramallah

To enter Ramallah, each musician was issued with a
diplomatic passport by the Spanish government.
But, standing beneath the West Bank barrier on Saturday
at Ramallah's Qalandiya checkpoint, he praised the governments involved.
One could forgive the players for being a little distracted: the concert
hall in which they were rehearsing was the Cultural Palace in Ramallah, and the
ensemble the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra - the youth orchestra founded in 1998
by Barenboim and his close friend, the Palestinian intellectual Edward Said,
consisting of musicians from Israel and Arab countries.

Today we and all who have stood with us in
our struggle for peace and freedom celebrate the removal of illegal settlements
from Gaza. But we must remain vigilant in order to harness the momentum of this
process and take it to its logical conclusion - a sovereign Palestinian state
in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.

5) Istanbul Initiative for Solidarity with Mehmet Tarhan Historical
punishment for Mehmet Tarhan.
Conscientious
Objector (CO) Mehmet Tarhan, whose trial has been going on for over 4,5 months
already by the Military Court of Justice, has been imprisoned to a historical
punishment. In the court hearing that joined two seperate claims that are
namely "Insubordination before command" and "Insubordination
before command for trying to escape from military service" pursuant Art.
88 of the Turkish Penal Military Code, Mehmet Tarhan was sentenced to a four
(4) years of jail, 2 years from each claim.
